From the archives: Blue Book covers
One bookcase in our office holds every blue book (Yale's annual course catalog) from 1941 to the present. I pulled out a few samples to illustrate how the cover designs have changed over the years. The typographic and compositional choices reflect the design zeitgeist: from the earliest classical, centered layout complete with college shield to hard modernism with all its sans-serifed asymmetry to a referential but modern amalgam of influences, the blue book's constancy has evolved through design.
